Ashley Brunier

I grew up in Whittier, CA, but I have always felt deeply connected to Orange County. I transferred to Irvine Unified School District when I was in 6th grade, and later to Brea Unified School District where I finished high school. I then went to UC Santa Barbara where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies. I had originally intended to obtain my degree in Biology, however I realized I was missing the social side of science. I learned that I had a passion for studying how the world worked on a scientific level, but also for how human behavior, economy, and social matters had impacts on the environment. The summer after I graduated from UCSB, I attended a field research program in Costa Rica. I was able to study hands on the effects of tourism at a (then temporarily closed) national park, in addition to the local community and people who relied on its revenue for financial support. It was here where I realized I wanted to promote environmentalism but also work with people through community outreach. After this, I came back to Orange County where my first job was as a Recycling Coordinator for Waste Management. Here I was able to gain experience working with municipal clients, learning California solid waste legislation, and practicing educational outreach and recycling program implementation. I was soon promoted to Orange County Public Sector Manager where I further gained experience managing large municipal franchise contracts and serving as the company representative for local officials, community stakeholders, non-profits, businesses, and residents. I am thrilled to be a part of the EcoNomics team, where I am surrounded by those who have similar passions, and where I can assist our clients achieve recycling compliance and help our communities become more sustainable.
